May 2023 MSAT Results Thread
- MSAT: 206
- Σ: 409
- POTENTIAL: 208
- RAW SCORE: 107
- INCORRECT: 1
Take Number? 2
How many PRs: 1000-1200 total (so between my first AND second attempt)
Will I be retaking: HELL NO!
Overall, I'm not mad about my performance. My PR scores were a little higher and it's always a little disappointing when your practice scores and your actual scores don't align, but you know how it goes. I'm looking to apply to most of the 10-15 range (MSLA, Pike, and Weston are my main goals) and I'm going to throw a few reaches in there (probably Eden, Bradford, and maybe one of WEE).
I don't really have any advice for future test takers other than to trust the process and continue to believe in yourself even when you starting having doubts about things. It's a very hard process at times and it can become difficult to persist, but just remember that you've already made it this far, and truth be told, the hardest part has already passed.

eh.
so, this was my second take, and I'm glad to say that I'm done with this exam. honestly, if you get even close to where you want to on your first try, i'd advise you to keep it and move on. this advice goes against the norm, but i truly think it's the better move.

First take for me! I'm feeling kind of intimated posting my score here, not even going to lie. Lot's of high scorers in this wave!

I might take it one more time. I was averaging a 215 and even had a high of 219. I don't know. I might apply though.

for me, it was kinda rough. now, i'll be honest, i didn't take a lot of practice exams before hand and that's probably a contributing factor to the lack of confidence i felt throughout my exam.
i had moments where i stumbled and had to catch my breath, but overall it didn't feel like the worst thing in the world. i'll probably retake in july or august, but for now, i'm going to relax for a little while.

I'm so upset because I know for a fact that I choked up, and had I not, I probably would have scored in the higher 210s. I PRd around 215-216, so it makes sense where I landed, but that's also how I know that if I wouldn't have choked it would've been a massive personal best by a long shot. Ugh!

Somehow, someway, I broke 218 and stumbled onto uncharted territory. This is my third attempt, and I'm very glad that I used it. I started out by taking my first exam cold, which was a horrible idea. I scored a 194, missed 3 questions, and I felt pretty intimidated. One of my friends, (@gus), reminded me that it's not about where you start but where you end up.
I set out a plan to score the highest score I could. Each day, for approximately five months, I took 7 practice exams with full review for any questions that I missed. At the end of each week, I would take one exam with test conditions to mirror what it would be like on actual exam day.
By the time my exam came around, I was averaging a PR score of 215, with the lower end being 213 and the higher end being a 217. I figured with this average and my current accuracy, I stood a good chance at being admitted for Vale, so I stopped practicing all together a week before my May exam. Once again, I made a decision that in hindsight wasn't the best idea.
About two nights before my May exam, I took a PR using the newly released MPC.
I got a 218.
Tying one of the highest MSAT scores ever heard of did wonders for my confidence. I have never scored that high until that practice exam. I felt good, all engines were running, and having that "2-1-8" edified in my mind was the extra boost I needed to have a major breakthrough on exam day. Despite my nerves and the unpredictability of this administration, not only did I achieve my goal of getting into Vale, I am proud to say I achieved one of the highest scores of all time.
My best advice to anyone preparing to take this exam is to be honest with what you want and be honest about its attainability. From there, create a realistic plan that is tailored to you. If you practice day in and day out, then do that. If you are the type of person that takes practice exams in spurts, then do that. Whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability. Don't give up when it gets frustrating, and constantly remind yourself of what you want.
